Assistance with Our Website
Tips that will help you to
get the most out of it |
One nice thing about the Internet and Internet browsers is that they're free!
You can have the most up-to-date web-surfing tool by simply going to their
website and doing a "download-install". Whether you are using Microsoft's
Internet Explorer,
Mozilla's FireFox,
etc., none of them cost anything..
With today's security vulnerabilities, regardless of which version
you are using, it's always a good idea to stay up-to-date with browsers. If you
click on the links above in blue, it will take you to the proper web page if you
choose to upgrade your browser, or of course, you can simply visit their site's
on your own. This may be a good idea in that the most common used browsers
have different versions that depend on your operating system, such as whether
you are running Windows 98, ME, XP or Vista, the download may not be the same
for everyone. |
| Menu
System: |
As you can see, the main areas of the website are accessible from the menu
system at the left. However, in some areas such as Links, History, Reunions,
etc., you will notice a secondary menu that pertains to that section. It should
be clear and easy to recognize, but we always welcome your feed-back to make
things as easy as possible.
Ex: In the Reunions area, there is a sub-menu which simply allows
you to view reunion information and photos from various years. When using this
sub-menu, the new page appears right in the window below the menu. It's easy, it
probably took longer to explain it then it does to just try it. |
| Scroll
Bars: |
|
Some of the website's areas have "two" scroll bars. One being the standard
scroll bar you see to the right of all long pages/websites. The other, or
secondary scroll bar is set within the page area itself. You will find them in
the Crew Lists area, the History area, the Reunions area and more. The purpose
of this is to allow multiple pages, through the areas menu system, to be viewed
without having to reload a new page every time. The easiest thing to do is to
just play with it a bit and you'll see it's a snap! |
| [Top]: |
|
With long pages, it can become tiresome to keep using the scroll bar to go back
to the top of the page. To help with these long pages, look to the "bottom
right" of your browser window and you should see the
[Top]
script. It moves with you as you continue to scroll down a page. At any time you
wish to go back to the top of that page, simply click on the [Top] link and you
will immediately return to the top of the page. |

Visibility: |
|
Although most of the website is created in a manner to be visible by most, here
are a couple quick tips that not only can help you with this website, but with
all of your internet browsing. Those who are more visually impaired probably already
now resources to help them out. |
1)
Pretty much all popular web browsers, including Internet Explorer & Firefox have all had an easy to access way to increase the size of your
viewable text anytime you wish. Simply look at the top or bottom of your browser for the
menu area and click on the "View" menu option. When that menu drops down, just
look for the option called "Text Size", or something similar to that. When you
choose that, by default it is set to Medium. If you choose "Larger" or
"Largest", you'll see all the text on the website increase in size without
distorting any of the graphic images. The whole process, once you've done it
once, should only take a couple seconds to change back and forth anytime you
wish.
2) Most computer Operating systems in PC's and Mac's also have a global
built-in function that will allow you to do the same as above, but work on all
programs you are using. |
|
Compatibility: |
|
Although most web browsers are in their versions IE v8, or 3.x (FireFox), and
are all free to download, some people are simply comfortable with their older
version browsers to use surfing the internet. With that at mind, this website
conforms with most browsers v5.x or later, thus making the site pretty much
fully functional full everyone. |
|
This is your website and your feed-back is always
welcome, even desired, and that includes problems or complaints. As with any
technologies, there can occasionally be problems, but they are few and far
between. As web designers, we can hope to please most of the visitors, but know
we can never do that for everyone. Again, it is by your feed-back that this can
continue to grow as the primary resource for the history and current events of
the shipmates of the USS William M. Wood DD/DDR 715.
A feed-back form will be coming soon, but for now, just email
webmaster@dd715.org with any questions or issues you may have with the
website. |
